You may have recently received notifications from Companies House that all company directors and PSCs (Persons With Significant Control) are required to verify their identity with Companies House.

Verification is required before filing the next confirmation statement from 18th November 2025, or before the appointment of new directors.

Key Timelines

New appointments after 18 Nov 2025
  • Must verify before incorporation or appointment.
  • Incorporations without a verified director will be rejected.

Must verify and provide their personal code with the next confirmation statement (within 12 months of rollout).

  • If also a director:
    • Provide code for each role separately.
    • PSC code must be submitted within 14 days of the company’s confirmation statement date.
    • If not a director:
  • Submit code within the first 14 days of your birth month. For example, if your date of birth is 22 January, your 14-day period will begin on 1 January.
    •  If added after 18 Nov 2025:
      • Verify within 14 days of being added. For more information, read the guidance on when to verify.

  • Personal email
  • Biometric passport
  • or a UK photo driving licence
  • A smartphone (iPhone 8+ or Android 10) for the ID Check app.

For those who are unable to use the online service.

If you are resident overseas

If you are resident overseas, have a biometric passport* and can access the GOV.UK login, you should be able to follow the same process. *To check if your passport has a biometric chip, look for the rectangular biometric chip symbol on the front cover.

If you cannot access the GOV.UK login, you will need to use the services of an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) who can provide ID verification services. If this is the case, then please complete our Overseas Residents Form and we will provide further assistance.

If you do not have a biometric passport and the Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP) is unable to assist, you will need to contact Companies House support.

What do you do once you have verified your identity?

If you require us to file your company’s Confirmation Statement, we will need a copy of your personal code. You can securely provide your unique personal code via this Personal Code Form so that we can make the appropriate filings on your behalf.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

  • Acting as an unverified director or PSC is a criminal offence.
  • Companies cannot file statutory documents if roles are unverified.
  • Risk of fines, filing restrictions, and reputational damage

Please note, if the verification has not been completed within the required timeframes, based on whether you are a director, PSC or both, no filings can be made at Companies House by you or Fiander ETL.
